Wycliff Tugume a.k.a Ykee Benda, a Ugandan musician, criticizes the music industry’s gatekeepers who resist progress and are selfish in their interests.
Ykee, while speaking to Sanyuka TV, expressed his discontent with a few individuals who have fronted their selfish interests always and denied the progress of the local industry.
He emphasizes the importance of a free economy where consumers can choose where to buy products, and artists can sell their work without interference.
The Mpaka Records boss believes that one day, these gatekeepers will fall and will be brought to shame – and only then will the industry progress.
Some people have to first die before this industry makes progress and God will do that. Those people have deliberately denied the industry’s progress because, for them, anything that doesn’t satisfy their selfish interests shouldn’t succeed.
These are the people we call gatekeepers. They have to understand that this is a free economy. If I create my product and someone appreciates it, you shouldn’t be the one to decide where it can be sold or not.
But our God is working on it, some of them have already started to fall. Nothing you do in darkness will not come to light. One day, you will lose all the respect you have.
